Nutrition and Food Unit Web
This fun and interesting unit lends itself to a variety of multidisciplinary lessons. I believe
that an understanding of food and nutrition is important for children of all ages. By presenting cooperative, hands on lessons,
students will begin to develop a lifelong appreciation for and understanding of healthy eating and living habits, while also
developing their age-appropriate academic skills.
Math lesson plan
This math lesson emphasizes the concepts of most and least and utilizes a horizontal bar graph to
display the data from the students' test taste of three different fruits.
Language Arts lesson plan
This language arts lesson promotes the development of phonological awareness, while also fostering
an appreciation of books and the development of literacy skills.
Science lesson plan
This science lesson explores the concept of chemical reactions and implores the students to think
critically, make predictions, and verbalize scientific processes.
Multidisciplinary lesson plan
This lesson incorporates
skills from several disciplines. During this lesson students will utilize both receptive and expressive language, engage in
sorting and classifying, and gain a general understanding of the food pyramid and its components.
